AVC University

African Virtual Campus (AVC) University is a private higher education institution based in Monrovia, Liberia, that focuses on online and technology-supported education.

Founded in 2017 as an educational initiative, the university officially opened in December 2024 and began offering classes in January 2025, according to its published information.

Its development reflects an effort to expand access to graduate education through digital learning, particularly for students who may face geographical or practical barriers to attending conventional universities.

The institution serves an international audience and combines online education with limited in-person support options.

AVC University uses a flexible distance-learning model supported by its digital learning platform. Students can access online course materials and virtual classrooms without needing to attend a physical campus regularly.

The university also describes hybrid learning options and provides a support center for students who require access to computers, internet connectivity, or other learning resources.

Its teaching model accommodates instructors based in different countries, while academic advisers and thesis supervisors provide support throughout students’ studies. This approach is intended to make graduate education more accessible to working professionals and international learners.

Regarding legal status and accreditation, AVC University states that it received approval from Liberia’s National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) in January 2023 to operate as an online university with face-to-face options.

The NCHE is Liberia’s statutory body responsible for regulating and accrediting higher education institutions. This reported approval is an important distinction from private accreditation, which represents a separate form of external quality assurance.

AVC University also holds accreditation from the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE), a nongovernmental organization.

QAHE announced that it renewed the university’s institutional accreditation in May 2026. These arrangements should be understood separately because government authorization and private accreditation have different regulatory roles.

For prospective students, AVC University’s online delivery model and reported Liberian authorization are important factors when evaluating its educational standing. However, recognition in other countries is not automatic.

A qualification may be assessed differently depending on the destination country’s education authorities, an employer’s policies, a receiving university’s admission rules, or a professional regulator’s requirements.

Before enrolling, confirm the institution’s current authorization and whether the specific qualification will meet your intended academic or professional goals.
