Webbic University

Webbic University is an institution based in Ghana that promotes both online and in-person learning for students from different countries.

According to its website, the institution was established in 2016 and aims to make education accessible to learners seeking academic qualifications and professional development.

Its advertised programs cover several fields, including theology, business administration, information technology, international relations, political economy, leadership, and building technology.

The university also offers diplomas in areas such as human rights, conflict resolution, computer science, and business administration.

In addition to academic programs, Webbic University awards honorary doctorates to individuals it considers to have made significant contributions to society.

The institution itself explains that these honorary awards have no academic value, so they should be distinguished from earned academic degrees.

Webbic University states that it is registered in Ghana and lists registration with the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), under reference number NVTI/827/GAR, obtained in January 2022.

However, vocational training registration and authorization to operate as a recognized higher education institution are different matters.

Ghana’s higher education regulator, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), oversees the authorization and accreditation of tertiary institutions and academic programs.

During my review, I could not independently confirm Webbic University’s current authorization to award nationally recognized bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees through GTEC’s publicly available information.

This is an unresolved verification issue, not conclusive proof that the institution has no authorization. Prospective students should request the relevant official approval documents and verify them directly with GTEC before enrolling.

The university also lists affiliations and accreditation claims involving international organizations. One of these is the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE).

QAHE published an announcement in October 2025 stating that it had accredited Webbic University, and a further announcement in October 2026 reported renewal of that accreditation.

However, QAHE is a private quality-assurance organization, and its accreditation should not automatically be interpreted as government authorization to award recognized university degrees in Ghana or as accreditation by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized agency.

There is also a relevant historical detail: in August 2024, QAHE publicly stated that Webbic University had falsely claimed its accreditation at that time.

The later 2025 accreditation announcement indicates a subsequent change in the relationship, but students should still verify the current status and scope of recognition with the relevant authorities.

Overall, Webbic University may appeal to learners interested in flexible study, theology, business, information technology, or professional development.

However, anyone seeking a qualification for further university admission, government employment, professional licensing, or international credential evaluation should carefully verify the status of the specific program.

Before paying tuition fees, I would request written confirmation of the institution’s current authorization, the body legally responsible for awarding the qualification, and the recognition of the program in the country where I intend to use the certificate or degree.

This is especially important for students pursuing doctoral qualifications or planning to use their awards outside Ghana.

The timeline of QAHE’s statements is an important detail, as accreditation relationships can change over time. Students should look beyond private accreditation claims and verify the institution’s current approval directly with Ghana’s higher education regulator. It’s also good to distinguish honorary doctorates from earned academic degrees, especially when planning future career or academic opportunities.
